Art, Skateboards, and Beers

Introducing the Landyachtz X WKNDRS X PBR colab dinghy

This limited collab came about from a shared love of art, beer and East Vancouver. When Pabst approached creative duo the WKNDRS to create art for their latest can series, we all knew we’d need to make a skateboard to celebrate the release. The WKNDRS studio is based blocks away from Landyachtz in East Vancouver where there is a deep culture rooted in a love of art, skateboarding and beer. You’ll often skate by an East Van park and see people hanging out, enjoying a beverage and enjoying each others company. So cheers to all!

CLAIR & RACHEL - WKNDRS

What inspired your art for the this project and what was it like seeing the art transferred from beer can to skateboard?

We were really inspired by supernatural nature. We love the tiger motif and wanted that to be the 'PARTY ANIMAL' of the summer. We wanted the guest to experience good vibes, and be immersed in our light hearted and colorful WKNDRS world with a PBR twist. It was very surreal seeing the art transfer from the beer can to the skateboard. Getting to witness the unfolding of the art at Landyachtz was a really special moment for us and really completed the full collection.

What's it mean to you having this project develop entirely in East Van?

The fact that Landyachz is located in the middle of us is so rad. It's like the ultimate meeting place. Having all of us located in east van, we HAD to collaborate. Community plays an integral role in everything we do and this was the ultimate way to collaborate with our community.

The Dinghy Blunt is a new cruiser shape in the lineup for 2020 and we're stoked on it. This shape has a little extra width where you need it and a good amount of taper to allow for a more directional feel. Matched up with slightly wider trucks, this shape is great for riders with bigger feet or anyone looking for a little more stability and confidence out of their cruiser board.

100% Canadian Maple

Canadian Maple is a strong and proven material used in the world’s best skateboards. We source only the finest veneers found in Eastern Canada.

Kicktail

Take your skating into the third dimension with a kicktail. We design our kicktails to work perfectly with each deck shape as well as with the truck and wheel setup on each complete.

LOW CAVE

Mellow concave that barely feels like it’s there, but designed to give you the control you need, when you need it.

SANDED WHEEL WELLS

Wheel wells reduce the risk of wheel-bite by increasing the gap between wheels and deck. Sanded or CNC’d wheel wells both allow for larger wheels or looser trucks, if desired.

Flex Rating

So, what’s flex and why is it important to a skateboard? In skate-nerd terms, flex is the amount of displacement a deck sees when a specific amount of force is applied to it. Check out our formula to the left! There are a few factors that affect flex, like deck thickness, wheelbase, and the amount of force on a deck. We built a machine and put our entire lineup to the test by applying the exact same amount of force to all our boards and measured the displacement we saw in each. This gives a totally scientific and accurate flex range across our entire line! It’s important to understand flex when choosing a board. Here are some basics: Downhill/freeride skateboards will have less flex because you need a stiff platform to stand on when you’re bombing or gripping a corner at speed. Carving skateboards will have more flex, giving you the ability to sink into your turns and pump or carve with ease. Most cruisers, dance and ATV boards will have less flex for control when doing tricks but just enough to be forgiving when pushing around town. We’ve engineered our boards with the best flex for each style of riding but remember, flex is subjective so get out a see what you like the most!

There is a reason its a best seller

I would not suggest this board for a beginner or novice skater. The trucks are to darn small and may be difficult to balance on, the wheels are to big and heavy for tricks, and the board shape and size makes it tougher, not impossible, to get some decent non slide tricks in. If you buy this for what it is, its amazing. A compact board that can fit almost anywhere and those big wheels make for steamrollers over pebbles, twigs, cracks, dirt, and anything else that may get in your way. The tiny trucks make for tons of fun carving and whipping this little dinghy about. Its so easy to pull this out and tackle any rough terrain in a park trail or city. I intend on wearing this thing out and getting another one.

Dinghy Coffin

The board is great. I preferred longboards until I got some time with this dinghy. I love the smaller/softer wheels, they have a wonderful feel to them. The shape is quite nice and my footing is natural on it. Overall, the board is really good and has launched into my top spot. I would say I cruise around more so than I do tricks, but this board really allows you to open up and try some more things.

Like Butter

I chose this a something I could cruise around the neighborhood with. I’ve been riding a popsicle trick skateboard for 20+ years and was looking for something a bit smoother. My wife and daughter ride bikes and scooters, and I’ve always had trouble keeping up on the rough terrain with my old trick board. This thing handles cracks, pebbles, and torn-up pavement like a champ. Carving corners is a breeze, but it’s still plenty stable for the moderate speeds I ride at. No wobbles just yet. I was surprised at how versatile it can be for tricks also. I was landing kickflips, tre flips and pop shuvs, all bolts right away. Everything just feels so good. The materials are really high quality, and pre-assembly was near perfect. I love the squishy feeling of the Fatty Hawgs this came with. Highly recommend.
