MT FROMME

By team rider and Landyachtz employee Lucas Greenough

This is a great route for anyone looking to get some good, steady elevation in, during a short amount of time. A beautiful part of gravel climbs like this is that you don’t have cars ripping by you the whole time, you can actually enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. So, if you’re looking for a nice, long, steady climb away from all the cars this one is for you! Especially later in the summer months once the snow is gone and you can head further up the mountain.

This route starts out the same as the cypress route. You’ll make your way over the iron workers bridge and jump on the gravel behind the MEC in North Van. These backyard trails will weave you up parallel to the highway through Cedar Village. These trails will spit you out at the intersection of Lynn Valley Parkway and HWY 1. You’ll follow Lynn Valley Parkway, east for short stretch and just after crossing under the highway you will need to pop across the street and through the gravel trail. The route leads you onto E26th St, where you will take a right and then a quick left onto the powerline trail. This leads up and eventually through Princess Park. From Princess Park you’ll ride the road for a bit to get up and over to the main Fromme parking lot, and this is where the nice climbing begins.

It’s pretty straight forward from here, a steady, social climb with nothing too notable along the way. Later in the summer you are able to climb all the way onto Grouse Mountain, and fill up your bottles and get a good view from the top, but feel free to turn around wherever you want. Once you’re on your way down, keep an eye out for mountain bikers on their way up and give them lots of room. If you’re feeling up to it and want to add a bit of spice to your life, head on down Bobsled or Roadside Attraction for some fun single track!!

Back at the parking lot, you’ll ride the road on over to the pipe bridge and end up at the Rice Lake parking lot. Once you’re there, you have two main options for a route home: you can take the mellow descent down the Twin Bridges Trail, or you can ride the trail parallel to Lillooet Rd and take the Baden Powel switchback descent out to Riverside Dr. Hope you guys enjoy this one.
