WESTCOAST TRIPLE PLANK

A weekend of Surf, Skate, Snow and Solid Community.

Every spring, a unique gathering of board riders descends on Vancouver Island for one of the most spirited, grassroots events on the West Coast: The West Coast Triple Plank. It’s not your average contest—it’s a three-day celebration of snowboarding, surfing, and skateboarding, all rolled into one unforgettable weekend fueled by good people, wild weather, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Vancouver Island, Triple Plank brings riders of all levels together to connect, compete, and give back. Co-founded by Marie-France Roy and Alicia Gilmour, in partnership with the Redd Fish Restoration Society, the event goes far beyond board sports. It’s a fundraiser, an eco-action campaign, and a celebration of community, all rolled into one.

DAY 1: SNOWBOARDING AT MT. WASHINGTON

Our adventure kicked off with a classic ferry mishap—we missed our sailing out of Horseshoe Bay. But in true Triple Plank fashion, we made the most of it: skating in the rain, hanging with a curious seal, and soaking in the coastal views. Eventually we caught the next ferry and made our way to Mount Washington for the first event of the weekend.

The snowboard portion featured a perfectly built, high-speed banked slalom course. Cam MacGregor and Ben Robinson both entered and threw down solid runs on the challenging track. But it wasn’t just the slalom turning heads—there was a massive hip feature built into the course, and riders were launching off it and catching serious air all day. The session on that hip got wild, with people sending huge airs and cheering each other on between runs.
We also brought out demo snowskates for everyone to try and they barely touched the ground before getting scooped up again. Riders of all ages were out there learning, laughing, and ripping around.

To wrap up the snow day, we hosted a snowskate race on the same slalom course. Alex Hannigan, team rider/weekend surf convert, and Dave Leslie, our camera/media guy, jumped in the race and added a little friendly chaos to the mix. It was the perfect way to close out day one.

DAY 2: SURFING IN TOFINO

That night we hit the road across the island, landed in Tofino, and grabbed a few hours of sleep before hitting the beach. Surf day started at dawn with Alex in the very first heat. Despite not surfing in over 15 years, he got up on his board a few times and brought the hype. The waves were solid, the rain was steady, and the energy was unbeatable.

Our tent became a refuge from the storm—keeping friends and strangers dry and warm thanks to a clutch propane heater. Huge thanks to Tofino Surf Adventures for staying open late so we could rent boards and wetsuits!
Later that day, we joined the crew from Redd Fish Restoration Society for a group mission to remove Scotch Broom – an invasive plant that threatens local ecosystems. It felt good to give back to the same coastline that gives us so much.

DAY 3: SKATEBOARDING IN THE RAIN

Skate day at the Tofino Skatepark started off wet—really wet. The official contest was canceled due to heavy rain, but the energy was still there. People just kept skating. Cam threw down tricks through puddles and slick concrete like it was sunny and dry. And sure enough, by mid-day the sun broke through and dried the park. The session popped off.
We wrapped it all up with the awards ceremony, where winners took home custom West Coast Triple Plank x Landyachtz Skateboards—a yearly tradition we’re proud to be part of. Peep the custom board we made for the 2025 Triple Plank winners.👇
Then came the afterparty: live bands, a silent auction for Redd Fish, cold refreshments, and plenty of well-earned rowdiness. We woke up the next morning tired but smiling. Ben capped off the weekend with a classic hill bomb, and this time… we caught the ferry on schedule.
See You Soon

Triple Plank is more than a weekend – it’s a reminder of why we ride. It’s about community, conservation, and the joy of pushing wood (or foam, or fiberglass) through snow, surf, and concrete. If you haven’t experienced it yet, put it on your calendar. We’ll see you next year, same place, same energy. Let’s keep the tradition alive.
Big thanks to everyone involved and don’t forget to check out the amazing work being done by Redd Fish Restoration Society and visit the official event page at westcoasttripleplank.com.

CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF OUR PRECIOUS COAST

We are incredibly fortunate in British Columbia to have access to amazing venues that allow for such a wide variety of outdoor sports and the West Coast Triple Plank contest exists to highlight and protect these spots and their continued existence. From the beginning the contest has given 100% of proceeds to the Redd Fish Restoration Society, a group dedicated to maintaining and protecting Coastal BC’s watersheds and fish habitats.
