STANLEY PARK FLOW

By team rider and Landyachtz employee Lucas Greenough

This ride is a great ride if you’re new to gravel riding and are looking to test the waters a bit, close to home. It has a little bit of everything, for everyone and shows off some beautiful spots in Vancouver. I would also recommend this as a good afterwork, night ride through the park; any time of year.

This route heads east along the bike route before making a turn north to follow the water towards Stanley Park. There’s a decent amount of riding at the beginning and end of the ride that travels through some busy sections of the city, so keep your head up through those segments.

As you head into the park, make your way straight through the roundabout and past the aquarium. The entrance to the trail comes up quick on the left side, so keep an eye out for it. From there you’ll loop your way around Beaver Lake and up over the equestrian bridge. Once you’re off the bridge, you’ll begin your first major climb up to Prospect Point; on a nice gravel path.

At the top you’ll pop out at Prospect Point, a great place to stop and take a break while enjoying the spectacular view. Depending on the time of year and the state of the world, there are some washrooms at the top as well. When you’re ready, you’ll head back across the road and make your way down the West side of the road. There are a few fun single-track trails here on the way to the North Creek Trail; don’t worry if you skip them or miss any as long as you end up on the North Creek Trail. This trail offers some amazing descending back to Beaver Lake, on some flowy single-track. Now if you’re intimated at all by the presence of some single-track, don’t be! The North Creek Trail offers a very gradual descent with minimal technical sections. I would definitely recommend everyone try it at least once.

The North Creek Trail will spit you back out at Beaver Lake, from there you’ll head back up and over the equestrian bridge, continuing straight this time on Lake Trail. At the end of Lake Trail, you’ll make a hard left onto Rowlings Trail; which is a fast and fun descent with few technical features. This trail will take you all the way out of the park and onto the Seaside Bike Path. The route back to the shop follows Beach Ave, and takes you by English Bay and Sunset Beach; a beautiful way to end a ride. There are a lot of spots here to pause and enjoy the view with a beverage.
