This one is for great for people who are new to gravel riding or are just looking for an easy cruise through Burnaby. It has little, to no technical aspects and also features a lot of riding along some nice bike paths. If you’re looking to get into some gravel riding or you want a nice after work loop, this ride is for you.
This route starts out the same as most routes heading east, along the north Burnaby gravel. If you want to cut off some elevation and the harder riding in this section, we recommend jumping out at Confederation Park and cutting over to the Adanac bike route from there.
Once you’ve reach Kensington Square, you will continue along the bike route for a bit longer, and just before the base of Burnaby Mountain, you’ll make a right turn onto a shared bike path the takes you around the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course. You will traverse east along the south side on the mountain, through an industrial zone, to make your way under Lougheed Hwy and onto Avalon Ave. You will follow this street until it ends and turns into a gravel service road. This is the only gravel trail you are allowed to ride on around Burnaby Lake, so make sure to stay on it the whole time. It’s a nice section of smooth, flat gravel the runs along the south side of the lake.
This spits you out at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex, and the route will then take you onto the Central Valley Greenway that takes you most of the way home. This is a well-established bike path, that’s a mix of gravel and pavement. It’s a simple, but pleasant route and we hope you enjoy it.
