Tugboat – Light Peak Ultra Carve

(81 Reviews)

The Tugboat Ultra Carve setup packs a ton of turn into a small package. Designed specifically for Reverse Kingpin trucks (RKP), most commonly found on longboards, this setup is built for deep lean and tight turning. The Tugboat deck paired with Bear Gen6 130mm trucks delivers longboard style carving in a compact, highly responsive ride. Ideal for flat ground, paths, and mellow hills, it provides a similar experience to a surf skate or surf cruiser with less lean. The most maneuverable setup in our line, turning has never been so much fun.

Built for riders who love deep carves, this setup is extremely agile and quick edge to edge. Because of its tight turning behaviour, it may feel lively for brand new skaters seeking maximum stability. That said, if carving is your main goal, this is still a great place to start.

Key Features:
  • Wide platform for comfort and controlled turning
  • Small Nose keeps it compact
  • Mellow Concave for comfort and relaxed riding
  • Exceptional turning Gen6 130mm Grizzy trucks turn tight, making this the most maneuverable board we have.
  • Built for Cruising and carving flat areas and mellow hills
  • Artwork by Oleksiy Khmelov

DESCRIPTION

Coming in at 30″ long and 9.25″ wide, the Tugboat is a slightly wider and longer version of our top selling mini cruiser, the Dinghy. The wider platform is ideal for riders with larger feet who are looking for a comfortable cruiser board experience. The Tugboat is pressed with 7 plies of Canadian maple for a light, stiff and poppy ride. 63mm 78a Fatty Hawgs wheels finish off the setup and ensure you’ll have a smooth ride with plenty of roll speed and grip without having to worry about wheelbite.

Superb cruiser board!
After a 20-year hiatus, I decided to start skating again. I’m 40 now and mostly skate for fun and to get to work. The Tugboat is a great board for that. It’s really fun. Awesome (and nice support from Landyachtz crew regarding questions)!

Excellent Cruiser exactly what I wanted!
I love the board so much. I’m new to skating I just got into it last month and I got a regular skateboard. My neighborhood in queens has rough and cracked roads and I’d always fall with my regular skateboard with spitfire hard wheels. With this cruiser those are not problems anymore and I’ve only fallen once because it’s goes really fast downhill. (Skill issue) My one complaint with the board is that the grip tape came with some air pockets. I’m not really sure how to fix it yet but I’ll think of a DIY solution. Also the bearings/wheels were a bit tight for me so I loosened it a little so I could go faster but I think that’s more of a personal presence thing In conclusion I love the board, and the deck has beautiful artwork. This will be my main board for the time being as I will use it for cruising around literally everywhere and this thing will always stay in my car. Skateboarding has already changed my life and I’ve met some really cool people already, and I’m just super grateful to get into this hobby. I’ve tried many hobbies, but thanks to yalls board, I think this one will stick.

Tugboat Nightfall
I ordered the deck, trucks, wheels & bearings all separate because I wanted to have bigger wheels. I got the 63mm Fatty Hawgs with the bearings included and it was a great deal! The deck only came pre-gripped, all I had to do was put the trucks on and go. It’s been a very fun board! I got it to be a more portable option than the Drop Cat, for things like parking a ways out and riding the board to a downtown bar. I love the Drop Cat to death, I would just never call it “portable” in a busy area. The Tugboat fully accomplished that goal several times and has been an all around great addition to my collection! It’s fun, portable, and stylish- I’m super happy with it!

Favorite Complete
I have gotten to try a few Landyachtz completes over the last two years. I have purchased the Free Dive, Dipper, Ripper, dingy classic and Shape 9. I have swapped components on every single one of those, but not the Tugboat Ultra Carve. It's so much fun and so perfectly set up to ride squiggly lines all over the neighborhood. I have not found a from the factory complete that I like anywhere as much as this one.

Tugboat-Atmosphere
The Tugboat- Atmosphere cruiser skateboard is perfect for a beginner. I am a beginner myself and I really enjoy cruising around with this skateboard. This board is the perfect width and length, which makes it easy to get comfortable with. I personally like the design and colors that the Atmosphere board has. This board is smooth and easy for sharper turns that can be tricky sometimes. Overall, I really enjoy and recommend this board!

Awesome wide ollie-able cruiser
Just enough nose to ollie up and down curbs, mellow cruiser concave, and great with TKO or RKP on risers.

Awesome cruiser
After a few weeks of riding, I can confidently say the Landyachtz Tugboat is an awesome board for city cruising. It feels super stable and roomy underfoot, yet still nimble enough to weave through people and dodge cracks or potholes with ease. Before this, I was riding a Santa Cruz 27.7”, so the Tugboat is slightly bigger — but that extra size is actually a plus. It offers better foot placement and more confidence overall. The deck smooths out vibrations nicely, with just a bit of flex, which makes rough pavement a lot more forgiving. It does take a little time to get used to the feel and weight, but once you do, it flows naturally. The only thing I’d change are the wheels. The stock hawgs are fine, but I’m planning to swap them out for 63mm Doozies for a smoother, grippier ride — especially over cobblestone and rougher roads. As expected from Landyachtz, the build quality is top-notch. The trucks came well-tuned out of the box, the grip is solid, and the deck looks and feels great. If I were picking my first cruiser board again, I’d absolutely go with the Tugboat.

Flex Ratings

We’ve categorized the stiffness of our boards into 3 main groups, listed below.  The general rule is the faster you’re skating, the stiffer the deck, but this is not universal.

Flexy – Soft and supple flex profile best suited for carving and cruising on longer boards. The bouncy nature of these decks lets you turn deeper and surf your surrounds.

Medium – The do it all of our boards, a perfect balance of stability and carve.

Stiff – From cruisers to downhill boards a stiff flex profile excels in stability and responsiveness.  Whether you’re dipping into driveways or bombing a mountain pass you’ll be down with the stiffness.
